Dear Educators,
What if your students could draw their childhood home—and discover a story waiting inside? What if a simple map of their barangay could spark a conversation about history, identity, and belonging? What if you could turn memory into treasures? Into connection? Into Art?
Memory as Map: Storytelling Rooted in Place and Feeling is a workshop for educators, too! Those who want to bring storytelling into the classroom—not as a formal essay, but as a living, breathing experience.
In this half-a-day workshop, teachers will explore how memory-based storytelling can support subjects like Literature, English, Social Studies, and Art. You’ll try the activity yourself, reflect on your own stories, and leave with a flexible framework you can adapt for your students.
Because it’s where learning begins. Because every student has a story worth telling. Because when we connect personal experience to place, we build empathy, cultural awareness, and deeper understanding. Because it turns into treasures, into connection, into art.
"I didn’t expect my own memories to surface so vividly. Now I see how this could help my students write with heart—not just for grades." -Literature Teacher, Grade 10
"Mapping our humble rural village turned into a conversation about history, migration, and family. It’s amazing how personal stories can lead to deeper learning." -Social Studies Teacher, Grade 7
"Even my shyest students would love this. It’s not about perfect grammar—it’s about remembering, drawing, and sharing. That’s where real learning begins." -Elementary Teacher, Grade 5
"This workshop reminded me that storytelling isn’t just a skill—it’s a way to connect. I can already imagine adapting this for our identity unit." -English Teacher, Senior High
Whether you teach high school English or elementary Social Studies, Memory as Map: Storytelling Rooted in Place and Feeling offers a gentle, creative way to help students reflect, express, and connect.
